What do difficult times teach us? Let’s find out together …
All difficult times hide opportunities. This virus, which is upsetting and involving the whole of humanity, is offering us so many possibilities, let me explain.
From various researches, it has emerged that one of the most typed phrases on the web in recent years is: “How can I change my life?”.
While the most used excuse in response to this desire, for many years, has been the classic: “I don’t have time”… and it is precisely in this way that we have postponed year after year, everything we dreamed of doing.
Now, most of us can no longer use this excuse and must begin to be aware that they can now use this moment to change their lives, just as they wished.
So what to do in your free time at home? I wanted to collect for you, 5 simple but great ideas, to help you understand how to use the time you have available and do it in the best way.
However, let me tell you a story first….
The lobster story of Dr. Abraham J. Twersky
A long time ago, when the world was newly created, a certain lobster decided that the Creator had made a mistake. So I make an appointment to discuss the matter with him.
“With all due respect,” said the lobster, “I’d like to protest the way you designed my shell.
You see, as soon as I get used to my outer covering, I have to abandon it for another uncomfortable one, and moreover it is a waste of time ”.
To which the Creator replied: “I understand, but do you realize that it is precisely leaving one shell that allows you to go and grow inside another?”. “But I like myself the way I am!” said the lobster.
“Did you really decide so?” Asked the Creator. “Sure,” replied the lobster.
“Very well,” smiled the Creator, “from now on your shell will not change and you will continue to be as you are now.” “Very kind of You,” the lobster said and left.
The lobster was very happy to be able to continue wearing the same old shell but day after day what was previously a light and comfortable protection began to become bulky and uncomfortable.
Eventually it got to the point where he couldn’t even breathe inside the old shell anymore. Then, with great effort, he returned to the Creator.
“With all due respect,” sighed the lobster, “contrary to what you promised me, my shell didn’t stay the same. It continues to shrink more and more ”. “Of course not,” said the Creator, “your shell may have gotten tougher over time but it has remained the same size.
You have changed inside, inside the shell ”. The Creator continued: “You see, everything changes all the time. Nobody stays the same. That’s how I created things.
The most interesting possibility you have is to be able to leave your old shell when you grow up ”.
“Ah understood!” said the lobster, “but you have to admit this is quite uncomfortable.” “Yes,” replied the Creator, “but remember… every growth brings with it the possibility of discomfort… along with the great joy in discovering new aspects of oneself. But you can’t have one without the other ”.
“This is all very wise,” said the lobster. “If you allow, I’ll tell you something more,” said the Creator.
“Each time you leave your old shell and choose to grow, you will cultivate a new strength within you.
And in this strength you will find a new capacity to love yourself and to love those around you, to love life itself. This is my project for each of you ”.
Rereading the story of Dr. Abraham J. Twersky, rabbi and psychiatrist, I realized …
… of how we are led to escape from moments of discomfort and pain, as if these were moments to be avoided absolutely because they bring only discomfort.
But this is not the case, because these moments are necessary to grow, to then get rid of our old shell and finally get the life we so desired.
