You can’t force people to share your content on Facebook & Co. But you can give them an incentive.
Lately I have been asked more and more how to implement the ” Pay with a like ” functionality and so I decided to write a tutorial about it.
Would you like to know more? I’ll explain immediately what it is.
Block content to increase shares
There feature “Pay with a like” (Pay with a I like it) consists of blocking the content of a page until the visitor clicks on the Like button, or on the one to share the content.
Once the required action has been taken, the content can be viewed. I present to you some plugins for WordPress that allow you to activate this function in a very simple way.
Content Locker
The Content Locker plugin is available in a free and premium version. Created by the MyThemesShop team with the aim of helping you to increase the engagement of your readers, it is very simple to use.
Install and activate the plugin, then create your first “Locker” by going to Content Locker> + Social Locker .
You can add several buttons: like on Facebook and posting a tweet are available in the free version. Sharing on Facebook, the Twitter Follow button and others are included in the Pro version.
Customize your buttons and the message that will be displayed, finally click on the Publish button .
A shortcode will appear in the Manual locking box . Copy it and go to the page whose content you want to block.
Add the first part of the shortcode to the beginning of the content to be blocked, and close the shortcode at the end.
Now, a user who opens your page will not be able to see the content included within the shortcode until they perform one of the actions you requested.
In the Social Locker> Settings section you will also find the settings to link the plugin to your newsletter. So, for example, the content will be unlocked when a person signs up for your newsletter.
A note of caution! Content Locker is a really good tool for increasing shares, thoughdo not abuse it. Use this plugin for i truly special content. If a piece of content isn’t interesting enough, instead of sharing it, users will leave the page a little annoyed.
Social Share & Locker Pro WordPress Plugin
If you want to use a more complete and customizable tool, I suggest you try Social Share & Locker . With this plugin you will block the content of your pages until it is shared on social networks.
More than “Pay with a like”, we are talking about “Pay with a share”.
There are 60 buttons, from Facebook to Pinterest, from sharing via email to Telegram
It is also possible to show or hide the block based on the type of user: if they are a registered user, if they have already commented, if they have a certain WordPress role, and even if they visit your site from a mobile device.
Choose between different templates for your message, activate the transparency display of the content and customize various aspects of the style.
Opt-in Content Locker for WordPress
Opt-in Content Locker blocks content until the user subscribes to your newsletter.
Very easy to use, just use a shortcode to enclose the blocked content and you can connect with different newsletter services, such as Mailchimp, GetResponse, Aweber and others.
Comply with the GDPR as the acceptance box for terms and conditions and processing of personal data is included. Thanks to the use of cookies, it will remember if the user has already clicked on the button and therefore will not ask him again and again.
Conclusion
In this article, you discovered the Pay with a like feature to engage your visitors more, showing the contents only after their like, their sharing or subscription to the newsletter.
Do you like this feature?
In your opinion is it effective for increasing the shares of your site?
Do you think you will try to use it?
As always, I can’t wait to hear what you think in the comments.
