You came to this guide because you are thinking of advertise on WordPress?
Before you start adding banners to your site, I invite you to read this short article.
Do you want to advertise on WordPress or not? This is the dilemma
Note! In this post, when I talk about advertising I refer to banners placed through advertising circuits such as Google AdSense.
Surely, advertising is one of the most popular methods to make money on the Internet: you place a banner on your site, you forget about it and you see the proceeds arrive.
Simple, right? Too easy! In fact, it doesn’t work that way at all.
Or rather, it doesn’t work like that for those who have just started a site.
In order for advertising to generate significant revenue, the site must in fact receive a significant volume of traffic.
It depends on the sector and on how much the single clicks on the banners are “worth”, but in principle it is necessary to have at least a thousand daily visits to receive noteworthy earnings (I am not referring to hundreds and hundreds of euros anyway).
You may be wondering what is the problem with inserting banners anyway and waiting for the traffic on the site to grow, as they do not require any work …
Personally, I am of the opinion that – unless the earning potential is significant – it is better to avoid banners and advertisements, as they disturb the user experience on the site and distract the latter from the content.
Not surprisingly, there are many users who install ad blocks in their browser , such as AdBlock.
There is another important aspect to consider: when using advertising circuits such as AdSense, it is not possible to choose the banners that appear on your site.
This means that advertisements for products you do not want to be associated with, or even competitors, may appear!
Are there alternatives to banner ads?
As you may have guessed, I believe that advertise on WordPress when a site is still in the first months / years of life it is not a good choice.
The reality is that there are far more effective monetization strategies.
First of all, undoubtedly the promotion of affiliate products and services.
If you don’t know what it is, affiliation is the promotion of a product you have selected on which, for each sale, you receive a commission.
In my opinion, this strategy is much more suitable as it allows you to select the companies to work with, as well as contextualize the promotion of products in guides, posts and other contents.
Another good, if more challenging, strategy is to create premium courses and resources.
In this case, the earnings will all be yours, but the work required is undoubtedly greater.
Finally, the third strategy that I want to recommend is the offer of consultations and training sessions.
If you run an informational site and are an expert in your field, try offering individual training sessions (in person or via Skype).
For other monetization strategies, I recommend that you read this guide (for completeness, advertising programs are also mentioned in this post).
Conclusion
What do you think?
Are you still thinking of advertising on WordPress or have you decided to wait and try to make money with the alternative strategies that I have proposed to you?
As always, I’m very curious to know what you think about this topic… I’m waiting for your comment below the post!
